DUKE BASKETBALL

A lot of kind words for Jon Scheyer from the Duke coaching staff and former players after it was officially announced that he is coming back to Duke as a special assistant.

I love my team. I wish we could have played better today. We needed to play a great game to win, and we couldn’t do that. I’ve had a great team, and my three seniors, my three seniors have been the epitome of Duke basketball seniors. Winning 124 games over their four years, just representing us so well, and it’s been a joy every day to be with them, and for all except one team, it’s going to be a sorry — it’s a tough ending, and so it’s a tough ending whenever it comes, and today’s the day it came.
Coach K, after Duke’s loss to Louisville in the Elite 8
You’re only a freshman, but to watch these three seniors who have done so much for this program have to play their final game, how difficult was that for you? It’s really hard. I’ve only been with these guys for a year, but they made a big impact on my life, and they’ve done so much for me, for us as a team, and for this program. With the time invested that we all put, and how close our team was this year, it’s just a shame that we didn’t walk out as champions. But you know, we have nothing to be ashamed of. We accomplished a lot this year. We won thirty games, and those guys are gonna have great careers in the future. The only regret that I have this year is that we didn’t help those guys walk out with their heads up as champions.

I’m fine with people saying whatever they want about us as long as we keep proving them wrong.
